Adding an Access Door to Upper Deck

As you can see in this picture, the only access to the upper deck is through the master which is the upper left door. We felt that having access from the main loft area where the majority of the traffic is would be a more convenient location for the deck. That way the kids are not running through our room to get to the upper deck. |

This is the view of the three windows from inside of the loft area.
While at the Habitat for Humanity thrift store, I spotted a door that was the exact same style as the windows that I had. it was for $30.00. It was slightly narrower than the existing window, but I knew I could make it work. |

In order to remove the window, I removed the drywall along the sides and also directly under the window. I removed the insulation and used my Dremel to get a straight cut into the drywall |

I did the same thing on the exterior by cutting the vinyl siding directly under the window. |

I was able to then remove the window and cut out the 2x4s underneath. |

I framed in the door and added trim work to tie it all together. |

Deck is now accessible from the loft. |
