How I Converted Attic Space Into a Bedroom

BEFORE AFTER Okay, Its taken me 3 months, but I am really excited that I was able to get a 4th bedroom out of our unused attic area. On our 2nd level we have a loft area. Behind the North wall (picture below) is an attic space the continues to the North exterior wall of the home and is normally accessed through a ceiling panel on our main level. I had noticed that the loft contained a large solid beam that runs along with the wall and the loft floor sits 10" higher than the attic floor (no actual floor, just 2x4's that are part of the roof truss structure.) I also noted that because the exterior wall contained 2x4's laid width wise (flat against the sheating that is my exterior), it created enough space to access the main stem wall and create a solid beam that would run parallel to the other beam on the opposite side of the potential room. Building a Floating Deck When we bought our home, the backyard was completely useless. The previous owner made a poor attempt to enclose the patio which created an awkward and unusual space that didn't serve many purposes. Because there was no retaining wall, mud had slowly accumulated at the bottom of the hillside which is supposed to the the backyard. Our plan was to dig into the hillside as far as possible to make the backyard more spacious. We didn't realize that we would hit sandstone so quickly which dampened some of our ambitious plans. The posts for the small retaining wall had to be jackhammered in because of the sandstone. Farmhouse Project 1: Rustoleum Garage Paint Results

Rustoleum Garage Paint Epoxy I have always wanted a nice painted garage floor, but our garage seemed to always be full. So finally with this new house, I have the chance to make the floor look wonderful. I really didn't want to start this big project with the garage because I wanted to use it as my "workshop" as I remodel the house, but since my wife could not bear the smell of smoke (the previous owner smoked in the garage), it couldn't wait. First step was to make some drywall repairs from past roof leaks, paint the walls and ceiling with 5 gallons of Kilz primer, then 5 gallons of Behr ultra white semi-gloss.
