How to Fix Aluminum Siding Corners DIY Style
If your siding corner's look like this, you are in the right place as you have also probably found out that you cannot easily buy aluminum siding corner's like these anymore.
My solution: While the furnace guys were here, I borrowed some of the scrap metal they had used for my installation along with some metal snippers and a bending tool. I took off one of the corner pieces to use as a template and flattened it out then used my marker to mark a few out. I put them right next to each other so I only had to make one cut for two sides.
In hindsight, I should have left off the raised tab at the top which is only useful during original installation.
Getting a good bend was a little tricky, but I figured out a good method by using a piece of plywood as a template.
I used their bending tool to make the last folds at the bottom of the piece.
And..Whalla..a new piece.
They stuck in pretty good without any nails, so I took some "liquid nails" and applied it to the lower portion to ensure a good lifetime hold. I made sure to rough it up to get off the oils from the metal just before paint.
